DOWNTOWN L.A’S HOPE FOR MANUFACTURING: SOUTH PARK L.A
This recession is not over: Some sectors are showing signs of growth-amazing recovery-some sectors sluggish, and the next sector to crash: To devour more wealth and savings, to unglue, unhinge, and demolish the life savings of thousands of investors will be the commercial real-estate market.
It will plunge as sure as rain falls from the sky.
So what is the solution to this? To the Macro economic environment and the Micro economic environment?
Cooperation, connectivity, and the renewal of mercantilism: Of a form of high-tech, high-level, “I trust you, you trust me,” bartering. Alliance building, strategic partnerships, aggregation of forces (businesses, personalities, and organizations), and a willingness to accept the concept that so many Americans shy away from as a viable mode of business: Warfare. Total warfare.
There are enemies-they exist as concepts (I am almost no one man’s enemy): Conventional thinking, delays, anemic policy making, obtuse officials, fearful capital, and mindless, inane C-Level decision makers many of whom, instead of being swept away by a recession they helped cause, have been shifted to another company, or worse elevated.
Capital must flow to innovation and innovative people and organizations congregate together in areas: South Park Los Angeles is one.
Its the next Tribeca- Its most certainly a micro (veiled) Silicon Valley.
This recession will come and it will go in the next three years-in the next three years-through the recession, exponential growth will be found in sustainability, green-companies, green-tech related companies, and-yes-dare I say it: Manufacturing. Manufacturing is a different animal that what it once was.
Its nimble, its out of garages and small warehouses, its fast, replicatable, and getting less expensive to do: This recession has cracked the delicate egg of Union domination and corporate greed-its the moment for America (for Los Angeles), to seize and begin to develop rapid-cycle, niche manufacturing.
MANUFACTURING IS THE OLD NEW. WATCH SOUTH PARK L.A: ITS SOON GOING TO BE A HUB OF MICRO-MANUFACTURING ENABLED BY ITS INNOVATIVE SMALL-BUSINESS OWNERS CONCENTRATED IN TECH AND CONTENT CREATION, AND INTERNATIONALLY THROUGH GLOBAL SOURCING OF COMPONENTS.
We’re not at a dead-end, its a cul-de-sac: The tide will turn and lift boats powered by entrepreneurs, risk takers, and visionaries.
Zero Emission Vehicles for Los Angeles: From theory to fact.
There has been lots of rhetoric about bringing true sustainable-vehicles to Los Angeles that are affordable, can be financed, and are fleet-ready.
Our Mayor has talked about L.A becoming the Greenest city in the U.S.
ELV-The South Park Development Group is pleased to announce that the move toward full sustainability( for example the city, Los Angeles companies and organizations can purchase or lease all-electric, zero-emission fleets from ELV-South Park Dev Group: A local, South Park Los Angeles, HQ Sustainability company.
The shark now has teeth: Doug Schwartz, Jeffrey Chung, and Martin Cavanaugh Porter have burned their bridges, put their resources, energy, and time to begin a zero-emission freindly pilot-program in South Park L.A (a zone in Downtown Los Angeles) backed by a full fledged showroom, repair center, and customized graphic (wrap) department.
All Los Angeles, all it’s power-brokers, and stake-holders who have deluged us with thousands of words talking about zero-emission vehicles now have an option: to use them, lease them, and lease/purchase fleets of them, turning the tide in Los Angeles-makin our city greener. better, and more livable. The South Park Development Group, E L V Motors, and Wabi Cycles are innovating to reduce emission, polluting vehicles in Los Angeles-NOW
S. Gail Goldberg: Los Angeles City Planner-seeks break from cars…
She lives in Hancock Park and often takes the bus: Gail Goldberg is our chief city planner and she is a tremendous asset for Los Angeles: bringing a powerful advocacy to reducing congestion and getting people out of their cars and onto cycles (please see www.wabicycles.com) and walking again: seeing Los Angeles in all it’s grit and grandeur.
She has an agenda that the Downtown L.A’s Business Blog supports: the 12-2 initiative: allowing developers to only deal with two city offices- the Planning, and Building and Safety departments, instead of the 12 they normally visit for approval.
We’d like her to look at what the South Park Development Group is doing in tandem with E L V Motors and Wabi Cycles: Developing a powerful inner-city zero-emission alternative to polluting cars and cycles. It’s called the South Park Sustainability Shop and it is selling, servicing, and customizing absolutely zero-emission cycles, all electric delievery vans, scooters, and cars, and motorcycles. Vans and cars you literally plug into a wall socket and recharge.
Imagine, Gail, just imagine, a whole city department running off of fully electric fleet vans, and police on bicycles with an extra range of power and range due to electric powered engines? Alternatives must be sought and the South Park Development Group, working with E L V Motors is developing these alternatives.
In the days and weeks ahead the South Park Development Group and E L V Motors will be talking to Gail and to Robert Ovrum, L.A’s Deputy Mayor of Economic Development about transforming our city core into a best-practice, ground-zero zone that supports through advocacy and economic grants, their efforts to make Los Angeles truly green.
korean innovation and investment- downtown la biz
It’s all gotten better. from the car ads to the cars themselves-the Hyundai Genesis for example: an exceptional car at an exceptional price. Through the recession, this long tailed downturn, the Koreans have kept innovating and introducing relevant products and improving their ability to brand-to signal their innovations and the quality of their products at value prices.
It’s further than that: they are investing in downtown-Korean Airlines is financing the most viable, important, new high-rise development in downtown l.a in the last five years-which includes the pre-recession period.
With the stronger Won, Koreans are investing, largely with cash, in lofts, condos, homes, and buildings-playing a significant, visual role in shoring up the local downtown economy.
They are in fact, en-masse acting as a de-fact stimulus club for downtown los angeles and south park los angeles.
And they are not going anywhere: they are buying to hold. build, and grow-that’s what Korean businesses do.
So, the question is: how do entrenched businesses and interests react to this entrepreneurial and naturally innovative culture? Do they open their doors and arms, and bridge the gap quickly or creak along, watching change instead of becoming part of that change?
It is in the best interests of all downtown to understand and be motivated by the Korean movement to build, hold, and grow in Los Angeles and to realize that this is only the beginning: While our culture has been spending to a great degree, their culture has been saving and now, in the midst of an international downturn, they have understood investment 101 and marketing 101: this is the right time to spend.
a game changing c.f.o-the importance of having a great mentor in your organization
as c.e.o i deliberate, i engage in strategic thinking, and I develop the best strategy that should be implemented on behalf of my team, my clients, my family, and my community. most often, strategically, we are right on the money, backed by powerful tactical flanking executed by the team.
i don’t always know how to handle everyone-i don’t always get interpersonal relationships right: i am burdened by the entirety of the enterprise-which is no excuse-i refuse excuses from others and will not accept one from myself.
but, i can become so engaged in the day’s affairs and so wrapped up in my own ego, that i can’t see the forest from the trees-and the trees are my team. trees need water and the chance to grow.
i became insensibly unable to deal with a member of the team because i could not, through my limited prism of life and business experience comprehend the true nature of that person’s character or abilities-and i gave up. my c.f.o did not. she saw what i did not: a biz developer, a hustler, a beehive worker-a passionate, unique individual whose life experiences, bound together into a quilt of embedded memory make her a valuable player to my clients, my team, and to me.
my c.f.0, eve, worked with her and what i can see-early days-is an early spring of personal growth and business mojo. always listen in business, always look for the tipping point, which is to be found at the edges, not at the centre, at those moments when you should listen, and are not. effective=active=acting intelligently. that’s what i am beginning to see in this person that the c.f .o is mentoring, and i am proud and grateful.
we may have a business development powerhouse on our hands in this young acolyte.
